Dr. Sketchy's: The Wizard of Oz

Oh oh ooohhh! Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School Dublin Branch, headed by the amazin' Scarlett Nymph is hosting a Wizard of Oz themed Sketchy's at which I shall be modeling. I absolutely adore this theme and I'm really looking forward to creating my own version of Dorothy or indeed the Wizard himself!

PaperDolls Dr. Sketchy's Party!

On Sunday 7th of August we will be hosting a very special event in the Complex, Smithfield, in collaboration with Dr. Sketchy's, to raise money for and promote our ABSOLUT Fringe show. With performances from PaperDolls, the gorgeous Bella A GoGo and pole dance extraordinaire Arlene Caffrey this will be an event in itself and a great chance to meet our team of young creatives. Added to the bill are the extraordinary ACROBANDITS who will be demonstrating their burglary and balancing skills on the night.

BYOB, your sketch books and colouring pencils and be exhibited in the Complex II as part of our ABSOLUT Fringe show, plus be in with a chance of your art becoming part of the show! As with all Dr. Sketchy's events, this is a non-photography event. If you wish to take photos of the performances, please contact us in advance.

How Bizarre How Bizarre

How I ended up in a parno mag:

The mag in question being Bizarre Magazine (issue 175) with MOSH model sporting a latex bunny ear cap on the cover. Some photographers from the magazine came along to the Black Rabbit Cabaret, planning to feature the event in their party section. The two lady photographers weren't in a great mood, having us fill out a questionnaire hurriedly with oddly uninspiring questions: "What living celebrity would you go down the rabbit hole with"... I am not sure why, at that moment in time, I decided that Dylan Moran would be the best choice... WHAT? Yes, that is what the caption reads... "I'd love to disappear down a rabbit hole with Dylan Moran"... I see it now, Myself and Dylan doing 180 degree turns while falling like Alice through a Walt Disney rabbit hole attempting to make small talk. Why? What was it that night that inspired me to say Dylan Moran? It makes no sense. I think I just figured spending time down a hole with Bernard Black could be more interesting than most celebrities... not Katie Price? That would be hilarious. Hugh Jackman? sexy, but married. Uh, Lady Gaga? That could be good. Panti? Intimidating, but inspirational. Eh, oh what about Darren Aronofsky? Local celebrities? Bella A GoGo would probably be the most likely candidate. She always has everything you need; hot cross buns and butter, tea, glitter, pizzazz, dance moves, witticisms, stories. But Dylan Moran?

Bella's quote reads: "I'm a local girl, but here I'm a 1920s vamp!"

Anyway, the grumpy photographers gave two thumbs up for the Black Rabbit Cabaret, including a nice personal mention: "... Mister Joe Black led everyone down the rabbit hole (well, next door) to watch The Fitzrovia Radio Hour perform horror radio play Beware of the Dark before stunning model Blackbird posed for a Dr. Sketchy's session".

St. Blackbird will be performing the Passion at the next Dr. Sketchy's event (APRIL 30TH, 3-6pm), with models Spunky Gore (whos behind is pictured in the Black Rabbit party review) and Fawnya Frolic.

Blackbird and Rufus: Tank Girl

Dublin's Tank Girl and her human-animal hybrid beau Booga at Dr. Sketchy's mentioned previously, as captured by the lovely and talented Peter Griffin of Griff Pics (see here). Well well well, something very interesting and exciting has occurred since all this Tank carry-on spirited me back to my punk lady roots! Who knew that the Tank Girl comics were alive and well, with a new team duo continuing the series in their own style. I was intrigued! The lovely and fascinating artist Rufus Dayglo and I have struck up a friendly correspondence and there seems to be potential for a future collaboration of some sort. In the meantime, I intend to interview him about his take on Tank Girl, the continuation of a comic book legacy and racking his brains for more joyous tales of beloved coffee houses, round the world travels and jumble finds.

The image below appears in black and white in Team Tank Girl's 'We hate TANK GIRL', but Rufus posted it in colour on his fbook. He describes it as the guide art for the painting done by his hero Gerry Talaoc, who he has collaborated with. Interesting story - he's full of interesting stories!

Black Rabbit Cabaret/ Dr. Sketchy's

Having already shared a stage with the captivating Joe Black, I am truly delighted to be part of the Black Rabbit Cabaret taking place in Dublin next Saturday. Not only do I get to consort with the UK royals of cabaret and theatre, but I also get to share the spotlight with one of my favourite ever cabaret artistes, Mr. Ryan Styles - his website is worth a gander. I adore him. So, post-nuclear tank loving heroine one week, 1930s damsel with fans the next. This is a show not to be missed.

On 12th March 2011: Dr. Sketchy's Dublin will be staying out late, we've got a date.. with The Black Rabbit Cabaret and we're very excited. Grown up glamour and decadence, over two stages and with international acts to inspire and entertain and we want you to join us!

On Saturday night, The Good Bits, Store Street is the place to be - where rules can be broken and no one will tell. For one night only, this infamous club will transfer you to the immoral nightlife of the Prohibition offering you weird and wonderful entertainment, cocktails, champagne and cabaret, spinning crazily from a glamorous location deep in the underground night life of Dublin.

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School: Tank Girl and Booga

Some samples of the sketching skills demonstrated at last Saturday's Dr. Sketchy's Tank Girl and her Kangaroo-human-hybrid boyfriend special sessún. The first image by Jonathan Byrne and the water colour by Aine Macken are my personal favourites. There were plenty more on the day, but not all of them have been digitalized. I sometimes find myself hating the plethora of photography, photographs and documentation technology in my environment; the illustrations make for a refreshing change, although I know for a fact that photographer Griff took some stunning photographs of the event. I was lamenting the transient 1990s dyke stylings I was rocking that day and Griff obliged me with some beautiful backstage portraits for the record. I'm really looking forward to seeing those images again.

I will be posing at the next Dr. Sketchy's event, The Black Rabbit Cabaret on Saturday March 12th.

After much performative posing success this weekend, the beautiful and industrious Scarlett Nymph has invited me to take part in The Black Rabbit Cabaret event happening on the 12th of March in the Good Bits on Store Street. Comprised of entirely UK performers including the astounding Ryan Styles and Mister Joe Black, the Black Rabbit Cabaret will be an extraordinary evening of performance, comedy, spectacle, theatrics and fun. Hosted by Dublin's Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, I'll be contributing with some posh posing for the pens of punters with feather fans and beautiful corsetry, Oo-er! I expect it will be a fantastic event with a cast of unique and wonderful characters, with many a tale and a trick to seduce an Irish audience.

The inevitable outcome of my historical tank Girl preoccupation, and a second performance of the Tank extravaganza that will be my personal adaptation of the Steampunk aesthetic on the 25th of Feb (see post below), you can now have an entire weekend of Tank Girl nostalgia and over-saturation!

On Saturday the 26th, between 3pm and 6pm, myself and my REAL, life size, prosthetically enhanced Kangaroo human-animal-hybrid boyfriend will be striking some poses for those with pencils, paper and an anti-artistic eye. That's right, an afternoon dedicated to those who like to draw. This will be the second Dr. Sketchy's I've done and I'm really looking forward to it. The last time it was a post-apocalyptical zombie world with violent, flesh eating, fetishistic, militaristic chaos with a teaming mass of NCAD students. Tank Girl seems like an appropriate follow up. More cigars, less students, some "explosive" pasties and peroxide blonde compulsion for a very productive and fun Saturday afternoon.
