Blackbird and Rufus: Tank Girl

Dublin's Tank Girl and her human-animal hybrid beau Booga at Dr. Sketchy's mentioned previously, as captured by the lovely and talented Peter Griffin of Griff Pics (see here). Well well well, something very interesting and exciting has occurred since all this Tank carry-on spirited me back to my punk lady roots! Who knew that the Tank Girl comics were alive and well, with a new team duo continuing the series in their own style. I was intrigued! The lovely and fascinating artist Rufus Dayglo and I have struck up a friendly correspondence and there seems to be potential for a future collaboration of some sort. In the meantime, I intend to interview him about his take on Tank Girl, the continuation of a comic book legacy and racking his brains for more joyous tales of beloved coffee houses, round the world travels and jumble finds.

The image below appears in black and white in Team Tank Girl's 'We hate TANK GIRL', but Rufus posted it in colour on his fbook. He describes it as the guide art for the painting done by his hero Gerry Talaoc, who he has collaborated with. Interesting story - he's full of interesting stories!

Tank!: Process

You may remember Stephen Coffee from Blackbird's Tattooed Lady project mentioned here. Well, the little genius has gathered the IADT student model maker troops, including his fellow students John Daly, Clare Byrne and Paddy Hoyne, to help us performer folk out for Bella's Steampunk Night happening this Friday at the Sugar Club. The Institute of Art, Design and Technology brainiacs have not only put their hand to creating some extraordinary props for two of Azaria Starfire's acts, but have gone out of their way to provide Dublin's Tank Girl (that's me in case you didn't realise) with amazing explosive pasties, armory, bullet accessories and well... an actual tank! (small as it may be).

Hand crafted by the fairly bloody clever Paddy Hoyne (previously, incorrectly, ashamedly accredited to another person who didn't make any tanks...), you gotta check this baby out!

Wow! Girl got a Tank.

Having adopted the somehow fitting title of Black Rat Productions, I do believe we may have a few far reaching and aspiring creative gems on our hands. Keep a cinematic and theatrical eye on these imaginative dynamos. In the meantime:

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School.

The inevitable outcome of my historical tank Girl preoccupation, and a second performance of the Tank extravaganza that will be my personal adaptation of the Steampunk aesthetic on the 25th of Feb (see post below), you can now have an entire weekend of Tank Girl nostalgia and over-saturation!

On Saturday the 26th, between 3pm and 6pm, myself and my REAL, life size, prosthetically enhanced Kangaroo human-animal-hybrid boyfriend will be striking some poses for those with pencils, paper and an anti-artistic eye. That's right, an afternoon dedicated to those who like to draw. This will be the second Dr. Sketchy's I've done and I'm really looking forward to it. The last time it was a post-apocalyptical zombie world with violent, flesh eating, fetishistic, militaristic chaos with a teaming mass of NCAD students. Tank Girl seems like an appropriate follow up. More cigars, less students, some "explosive" pasties and peroxide blonde compulsion for a very productive and fun Saturday afternoon.

Come see me twice (three times actually, two numbers on the 25th - clues coming soon!):

Tank!

Woo! Really excited to announced Bella A Go Go's next super show extravaganza! And isn't the poster fabLAs? I'm thinking up some really fun stuff for this and since I'm all blonde again, I reckon a Tank Girl act is long over due, especially since these photos were taken about a year ago by Rick Taylor with myself and Natalie Da Costa, but they are awesome and Tank Girl is a teenage dream what with her tank-love, anarchy living, hot crusty kangaroo guys uh... kissing and you know, general debauchee cartoon feminist stylin'! Of course, since discovering HotHead Paisan Homicidal Lesbain Terrorist Tank Girl has taken a figurative backseat in the ferocious-hot-lady stakes (and some of you may know what HotHead makes of Tank Girl and her, eh, association with the, uh, Kangaroo-man). However! Tank Girl was my first introduction to gorgeous punky strong women and an advocate for compulsive haircuts and I will love her for it forever.

Tank Girl by Jamie Hewlett:

I'm also working on a very special second act for this event - oh yes, gonna be a good night indeed. Prizes for best invention too!
